online casino fights back

It has been a week since online gambling was declared illegal in South Africa, and online casinos have started taking steps to challenge that ruling. The casinos will be allowed to continue operation during this appeal process.

The primary issue throughout this debate has been whether it is the laws of the country where the online casino severs are located or the laws of the country where the playing is located that are applied to the casino. Since every online casino has always had to obey the laws of the country where their servers are located, and they almost always take players from a large number of countries, operators have typically just stuck to the laws of the countries where they themselves are located. This all changed when the United States government sought to ban online gambling though. Instead of going after the casinos themselves they instead went after banks and payment processors who handled payments made to and from online casinos. This meant that there was no need to ban the actual casinos, since the JackpotCity pokies online could no longer be enjoyed by US players. Turkey has now also used this same approach, although there have been some problems with their implementation. So now South Africa is thinking to try the same thing. It is still far from being a fool-proof system though, and it’s unlikely that this ban will have any serious effect on South Africans playing online for some time.
